About exotic wood ...

It is not politically correct to use exotic wood in these times of "green" marketing.
And, yes, it is important to protect rainforests.

But it is obviously not the few thousands of artisans in the world , cabinetmakers or wood turners , who are responsible for deforestation.
Indeed, the trees are mostly cut in order to free the land on which will be planted soybeans that will feed our cattle, or palm oil for our biscuits.
I know it will make some scream , but somehow exotic wood I use is a bit like recycled wood , because it is cut anyway. And once cut , isn't it better to make beautiful things, rather than to burn it on site ?

Of course, I only buy certified wood , legally imported . But to protect primary forests, this is our lifestyles we must change, and the industrial sectors of multinational corporations that need to reform.

The objective ugliness

Of course, there is no shortage of opinions, debates, from artists or philosophers, about what are beauty and ugliness. Everyone does not have the same opinion on what is beautiful or not, and this is perfectly normal.
But when I saw the pictures of the house of Mr Ianukovich, the former Ukrainian president, my feeling was a mixture of anger and hilarity: how is it possible to spend so much money to do something so ugly?
Everything is absolutely ugly, architecture, decoration, furniture ... So yes, beyond a certain limit, the ugliness is objective.

Why Timeless ?

The furniture that I create obviously have a contemporary spirit . But when you talk about contemporary furniture , then everything looks alike . Just browse the many decorating magazines , and you realize there are trends , largely fueled by the industry players . And if the designers' creations are often beautiful , they rarely leave the beaten track business requires.
I am not inspired by "contemporary" design , the one from design editors , which does not mean that there can never be some common point .
When an object follows the fashion of the moment , it pleases the greatest number of course , but it also has many chances to be quickly outdated . To eventually make a comeback later , but I doubt that the current (over)production follows the same path as Art Deco or the creations of Charlotte Perriand .
This is why I call my furniture Timeless, because they are original pieces that do not follow fashion. I'm just trying to make it beautiful , and I hope to get there from time to time .

New year, New projects!

Here is the first project I will make this year. This is a stool, for a Taichi room. Sycamore, a very light color wood, will give a Yin touch to this Yang stool, firmly camped on the ground.
